Summer
Or Winter Wedding?
Wedding ceremonies
have become increasingly informal and it is possible to have almost
any style you wish, depending on the season you choose.
Summer
can be a wonderful time of the year for weddings. The increased
daylight hours of summer give you more options for both the wedding
and reception.
You could choose a traditional church ceremony,
picturesque in a stylish building, or you could exchange your vows
in a garden, on the beach, in an orchard, on a hilltop, or any scenic
spot you choose.

The greater variety of seasonal summer fruits,
vegetables, shellfish, flowers available give you almost endless
scope for your reception and decorations.
A dawn ceremony in a beech forest with a simple
wedding breakfast in a glade is unorthodox and romantic; a very
informal back garden barbeque reception, with a cold collation and
a whole beast on a spit, can work extremely well when suited to
the style of the wedding.
For those who tend to come alive at the other
end of the day, a dazzling dinner dance beneath the stars may be
the perfect way to end the festivities - the limit is your imagination!
The heat can pose a problem though, which may
require extra thought in your planning wedding hats become functional
as well as beautiful and your makeup should incorporate a sunscreen.
Guests will need shelter from the sun and an indoors venue
must be well ventilated.
There
are however some very good reasons for marrying in winter.
Often lifestyle or career constraints
dictate the choice of season. Dairy farmers, for instance,
traditionally marry in winter when they are freer to leave the farm
for a while.
There are fewer functions in winter
so you will have a greater choice of venues and the rates may be
cheaper.
If you are planning an overseas honeymoon a winter
wedding can mean escaping the cold for the warmth of a tropical
paradise.
The traditional bride opts for a spring wedding
- the season of new life, with blossom in abundance and the promise
of growth and renewal. But remember and plan for the spring rains.
An autumn wedding means settled weather, gorgeous
colourings in the countryside and a relief from the high heat of
summer.
The choice is yours - plan your wedding around
the season that best suits you.
